Sigh.

Abby stopped weight bearing on her right hind leg (the non-surgery leg) yesterday. Ugh. It happened suddenly while she was chasing a ball. Today she is still limping but seems to be weight bearing a bit. Please let it just be a minor strain....

I guess I shouldn't have been doing this kind of stuff with her in the past couple of weeks. It's just so hard to restrict her exercise when she seems (seemed) to be walking and running normally.

Ryan is more sensible. His hind feet never leave the ground.

Confused Seal

What? Two posts in two days? Unheard of. I just happened to uncover some more forgotten photos from this summer (new faster laptop = more fun looking through photos)

Beautiful hike.
Maybe looking at nice summer photos isn't a good idea when it's horrible and grey outside!

Happy dogs on said hike.

Adorable Maelle at the farm this summer
Cropped from the photo is Erika's iced coffee from that evil fast food restaurant that shall not be named. We both got so addicted to the $1 iced coffees that we spent hours discussing the highs, the lows, how to replicate them at home if possible, why we were so addicted, when the price would go up, when we'd each had our last fix....etc.

Loic loves 'milking the cow'

Just in case anyone was wondering what "hard eyes" look like...this is them.
Abby makes herself pretty clear.

There are some log booms near my work where harbour seals hang out with their new pups. We went to see them..

and as we were driving away (slowly, and with a jet drive engine) we turned around and saw this.

He was clearly a brand new pup and was very confused...he was trying to nurse on the side of our engine!

We stopped the boat and he soon swam away and found his mum.

Still Slow

For some unknown reason, writing about my slow computer motivated me to go through the agonizing process of processing photos on it. It's a good thing I did, or else I might have missed THIS:

OMG. Is she even REAL? Look at Odd's ears! And her itty bitty legs!

Looking at Lucy might elicit a similar "eeeee so cute!" reaction....

Until you remember that she is, in fact, a terror....err terrier.

Nine months post surgery and Abby's leg is pretty good:

 Everything she does is cute!

Ryan's ears looking not so tiny, for once.

The Dog Days of Summer...

...are over. It's colder and cloudier and it feels like fall outside.

I finally brought my camera to the park but my laptop is so slow that uploading pictures has become very irritating. So until I either have a lot more patience or a new computer, iPhone photos it is.

Lucy and Odd are both growing up! Odd finally lost her puppy coat but luckily not her gigantic ears. Lucy is getting better at listening. I stole her from my parents last weekend and worked on her recalls on a few off leash hikes. She did great! I called her off of strangers (who she *really* wants to go greet) and new dogs. I probably recalled her close to 50 times over the 2 days and she only ignored me twice - both times while wrestling with another dog. I should have known better than to test it but I was getting ahead of myself :) Sometimes I rewarded her with treats, sometimes with a little tug toy. My mom taught her a great "out" and she will tug anywhere, which is fantastic. She can also keep up with Ryan and Abby somehow, even though she is less than half of their size...she would be so much fun to run in agility!
Ryan has finally completely warmed up to her (he used to just kind of growl and moan when she would try to play with him). When all three of them play it escalates too quickly, but they're pretty good at taking turns playing in pairs. Poor Ryan has half of his tail hair missing from Lucy playing tug with his tail. I try to discourage it...

I had Abby and Ryan on the docks the other day and when I turned my back for a minute, I heard a big splash. Ryan had fallen off the dock. Smart Border Collie.
